Gordon At Home

As a kid, I dreamed of being a photographer but it seemed like a fantasy until I saw someone who looked like me with a camera in his hand. That someone was photographer Gordon Parks, the first African-American to produce and direct a major motion picture. His work inspired me to pursue my dreams, and now I’m living them. The same could be true for you – follow your dreams and make them come true! With hard work, dedication, and passion you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Don’t let anyone stand in the way of your goals, no matter how out of reach they may seem. Believe in yourself and don’t give up – you’ve got this!​

This image was shot for my first book, Sepia Dreams and it was an incredible honor to be there and capture this moment. Immediately after I shot this image, we sat on his sofa and did the interview that lives in the book. It was one of those special moments that you never forget.
